Tripura election 2023: Over 81% voter turnout recorded

The Congress, BJP get EC notice for tweets seeking votes on poll day.

Tripura election 2023: Polling for the Tripura Assembly Election 2023 officially ended at 4 pm on Thursday, February 16. The state witnessed a voter turnout of over 81 percent as of 4 pm. There is stiff competition between the BJP-IPFT, Congress-CPI(M), TIPRA Motha and the TMC.

Chief Minister Manik Saha, who is fighting from Town Bordowali, is among the key candidates and was seen casting his ballot today in Agartala. A total of 28.13 lakh voters will decide the fate of 259 candidates, including 20 women, in the fray.

Tripura Elections 2023: LIVE Updates

Elections to the 60-member Tripura Assembly was started today morning.  The voting was held under tight security at 3,337 polling stations, out of which 1,100 were identified as sensitive and 28 as critical.

According to Election Commission, over 28.14 lakh electorates of which 14,15,233 male voters, 13,99,289 woman voters and 62 of the third gender, were eligible for casting their franchise.

The fate of the 259 candidates will be sealed on 60 Assembly seats today. Votes will be counted on March 2.

Meanwhile, The Congress, BJP get EC notice for tweets seeking votes on poll day. The Election Commission said the tweets are violative of election law as they were made in the 48 hour ‘silence period’ which began on February 14.
