Tripura-10 injured in SFI-ABVP clashes in Maharaja Bir Bikram College

At least 10 students were injured during a clash between members of Students Federation of India (SFI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Maharaja Bir Bikram College in Agartala on Friday afternoon.

Clash took place when a members of SFI and ABVP clashed after an ABVP leader went to submit nomination form to contest in forthcoming Students’ Union election.

ABVP leaders claimed that their nominee– Pijush Nag sustained serious head injuries during the clash. He was later shifted to a local hospital.

As the news of scuffle spread, two rival groups of ABVP and SFI supporters engaged in ruckus near the college canteen.

Subsequently, ABVP activists blocked road on all four sides of Old Motorstand for 30 minutes and burnt tyres to show protest against attack of SFI. Police deployment was done in the area to check escalation of situation.

A police complaint was lodged this evening. No arrest was made till latest reports came in and  no complaint was filed with the college authorities.

Meanwhile timely intervention of Police prevented further escalation of the situation. However, members of both rival groups sustained injuries. At least ten were injured according to preliminary estimates, among whom three belong to ABVP.
