Altogether 30 Aadhaar centres will be in operation in the district. Of these centres, six falls in Algapur, 7 in Hailakandi, eight in Katlicherra and nine in Lala revenue circles.

At a day-long training programme for verifiers and data entry operators at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan gave necessary directions to the verifiers of the Aadhaar centres to start distribution of enrolment forms from October 1.

Khan asked the verifiers to dispose of at least 20 cases per day initially and to issue tokens with date and time to make the enrolment process smooth and hassle-free, and to step up the number of enrolment per day gradually. Enrolment will be done on all working days during office hours i.e. 9.30 AM to 5 PM. Also, the Aadhaar enrolment in banks and post offices will continue, he added.

Khan made it categorically clear that strict action will be taken against those found charging fee for Aadhaar generation, as it is free of cost. He also appealed to the people not to pay anyone for Aadhaar enrolment. He asked the verifiers and data entry operators to behave politely and in a decent manner with the members of the public ‘as they are the representatives of the administration’, cautioning them that no misdemeanour would be tolerated.

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the public not to panic or make a rush to the Aadhaar centres for enrolment as ‘there is no time limit or deadline for completing the process’. “It’s a continuous process and there will be sufficient time for each citizen to enrol for Aadhaar,” he quipped.

Khan gave necessary instruction for display of the list of villages falling under each Aadhaar centre at the Circle offices, BDOs, Gaon Panchayats and at DC’s establishments for convenience of the public. All the information regarding Aadhaar centres, list of documents, including the application form is available on the district administration website www.hailakandi.nic.in.

Downloaded and even photocopy of the enrolment form can be used. Applicant will have to visit the concerned Aadhaar centre at the appointed date and time for recording of biometrics. He/she will have to show the original documents at the enrolment centre and photocopies are not required.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the officials of APDCL and BSNL to ensure uninterrupted power supply and broadband connectivity in the Aadhaar centres so that they can function smoothly without any hiccups.

Master Trainer, Apurba Talukdar from UIDAI Regional Office, Guwahati, who imparted training, asked the verifiers to scrutinise the original documents properly ‘as Aadhaar enrolment is document based’. Talukdar explained in detail the prerequisites for Aadhaar enrolment as well as the finer points on simplifying the whole process to make it hassle-free.

The meeting was attended by District Development Commissioner, FR Laskar, ADC, EL Fairhiem, Circle Officers, SDO (Sadar), Assistant Commissioners, Additional SP and other officials.
