Assam: Screening camps for differently-abled, senior citizens to be held on October 28 in Hailakandi

Hailakandi is all set to organise screening camps for the differently-abled persons and senior citizens beginning October 28.
Disclosing this Additional Deputy Commissioner and incharge of District Social Welfare Office, Amalendu Roy said arrangements are being made by the district administration in association with NGOs to hold the screening camps in five different locations of the district.
The camps will be held at Algapur on October 28, Hailakandi on October 29, Lala on October 30, Katlicherra on October 31 and South Hailakandi on November 1.
Roy said that ALIMCO, an NGO, will bear the expenses for the screening camps in which differently-abled persons and senior citizens of the district will be provided assistive devices like walkers, tripods, crutches, walking sticks, wheel chairs, spectacles, artificial dentures and hearing aids following medical examination and screening. The assistive devices will be provided under two schemes namely Assistance to Disabled and Impaired Persons and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana. Persons with not less than 40 per cent disabilities and senior citizens above 60 years belonging to BPL category will be eligible.
The ADC further informed that the Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) and Block Development Officers have been asked to provide power, drinking water, lavatories, refreshments and other amenities for smooth conduct of the camps. NGOs WOODICHIEE and Barak Valley Handicapped Society will assist the CDPOs in arranging the camps.
Roy disclosed that plans to hold the screening camps were chalked out in a meeting held on September 20 last.
