Nagaland Faces Severe Floods and Landslides; Key Highways Severed, Relief Efforts Underway

KOHIMA— Nagaland is grappling with the aftermath of relentless monsoon rains that have triggered widespread floods and landslides, leading to significant infrastructural damage and disrupting daily life across the state.

A massive landslide near Phesama village in Kohima district has caused a 50-meter stretch of National Highway-2 (NH-2) to collapse, effectively severing the crucial road link between Nagaland and Manipur. The incident has stranded over a hundred goods-laden trucks, halting the transportation of essential supplies to Manipur.

Similarly, National Highway-29 (NH-29), connecting Kohima to Dimapur, has been blocked due to landslides near Dzudza village. The blockage has disrupted the movement of vehicles and affected the supply chain between the state’s capital and its commercial hub.

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued alerts for potential flash floods in low-lying areas and has directed all District Disaster Management Authorities to remain on high alert.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall in the region over the next few days, prompting authorities to urge residents to exercise caution and avoid travel in affected areas.

As the state mobilizes relief efforts, residents are advised to stay informed through official channels and adhere to safety advisories issued by local authorities.
