Assam Remembers Zubeen Garg on 53rd Birth Anniversary
From midnight vigils to statewide cultural programmes, Assam marked the first birth anniversary of Zubeen Garg since his passing, blending tribute with renewed calls for justice.

GUWAHATI- Assam observed the 53rd birth anniversary of the late singer, composer, actor, and cultural icon Zubeen Garg on Tuesday, marking an emotional day of remembrance across the state. This is the first birth anniversary since Garg’s death on September 19, 2025, when the 52-year-old artist reportedly drowned during a trip to Singapore. His passing continues to generate widespread grief and unresolved public concern.
Tributes began shortly after midnight outside his residence in Kahilipara, where hundreds of fans gathered to sing the artist’s most celebrated tracks, including Ya Ali, Mayabini, and other Assamese classics. Family members, including his wife Garima Saikia Garg and sister Palmee Borthakur, joined the crowd as a cake was placed before his photograph. In the morning, a bust of the late artist was unveiled at his residence by his father and Garima, drawing emotional reactions from attendees.
