Assamese Actor Sulakhyana Baruah Set for Bollywood Debut in Amit Rai’s ‘Ohh My Dog’
National Award-winning Assamese actor and producer Sulakhyana Baruah will make her Bollywood debut in director Amit Rai's family drama Ohh My Dog, alongside Pankaj Tripathi and an ensemble cast, with the film scheduled for a nationwide release on August 7.
GUWAHATI- National Award-winning Assamese actor and film producer Sulakhyana Baruah is set to make her Bollywood debut with acclaimed filmmaker Amit Rai’s upcoming Hindi feature film Ohh My Dog, which is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on August 7.
Directed by Amit Rai, whose previous film OMG 2 received critical acclaim, Ohh My Dog is described as an emotional family drama that revolves around the bond between a young child and a stray dog. The film stars Pankaj Tripathi, Pawan Malhotra, Geeta Aggrawal Sharma, Rajesh Kumar, Maahi Rai, and Sulakhyana Baruah. According to the producers, the story explores themes of compassion, friendship, and the healing relationship between humans and animals.

Sulakhyana Baruah has built a distinguished career in Assamese cinema as both an actor and producer. A graduate in Mass Media from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and a filmmaking alumnus of FAMU, Prague, she began her acting journey with Adomya before earning recognition through films such as Maj Rati Keteki, Anunaad, and Rador Pakhi. Several of these films have been showcased at national and international film festivals, while Maj Rati Keteki and Anunaad received National Awards in their respective categories.
Beyond acting, Baruah has also established herself as a producer of regional cinema. Her productions Mishing and Sikaisil have won National Awards, reflecting her continued focus on preserving indigenous languages and cultural narratives through filmmaking.

Speaking about her Bollywood debut, Sulakhyana said that working with Amit Rai and sharing screen space with actors such as Pankaj Tripathi, Pawan Malhotra, and Geeta Aggrawal Sharma was a rewarding experience. She added that she hopes the film marks the beginning of more meaningful stories while allowing her to continue representing the storytelling traditions of Northeast India on a national platform.
Apart from her acting and production work, Sulakhyana has participated in major international film festivals, including Cannes, and has served on preview committees for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) as well as film festival juries. The release of Ohh My Dog is being viewed as another milestone highlighting the increasing presence of talent from Northeast India in mainstream Hindi cinema.
