Assam Flood Crisis Persists; Salman Khan, Randeep Hooda and Kartik Aaryan Extend Support

GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam showed signs of improvement on Saturday, but the crisis is far from over, with nearly 1.78 lakh people still affected across the state. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), seven districts, 20 revenue circles and 349 villages continue to remain under the impact of flooding.

The latest official bulletin stated that no flood-related deaths were reported during the last 24 hours. However, the death toll from floods and related incidents this season remains at 82.

Water levels of the Dikhow River at Sivasagar and the Dhansiri (South) River at Numaligarh in Golaghat district continue to flow above the danger mark. The affected districts include Golaghat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Bajali, Dhemaji, Sonitpur and Jorhat.

The state government is continuing relief and rescue operations across the affected areas. At present, 44 relief camps are sheltering around 15,000 displaced people, while relief distribution centres are supplying food, drinking water and other essential items to affected families.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government has intensified relief efforts to ensure assistance reaches every affected household. He reiterated that restoring normalcy and rehabilitating displaced families remain the government’s top priorities.

Although the current situation has improved compared to previous weeks, the overall impact of this year’s floods has been severe. According to the official flood bulletin covering the period from April 29 to July 31, floods affected 25 districts, 77 revenue circles and 2,251 villages, impacting more than 1.145 million people across Assam.

During the same period, 29,985 people were evacuated to safer locations. The floods completely damaged 2,530 houses, while another 9,668 houses suffered partial damage. To support relief operations, the state government established 1,811 relief distribution centres, while 218 relief camps accommodated thousands of displaced residents during the peak of the crisis.

Bollywood Extends a Helping Hand

As Assam continues to battle one of its worst flood seasons in recent years, several Bollywood personalities have stepped forward to support relief efforts, expressing solidarity with the people of the state.

Actor Randeep Hooda personally visited flood-affected areas in Sivasagar district, where he met affected families, distributed relief materials and participated in community food service. He also appealed to people across the country to contribute to relief efforts.

Actor Salman Khan, through his charitable organisation Being Human, has launched a relief campaign for flood victims. His team and fan clubs are distributing food packets, ration kits, medicines, drinking water, sanitary napkins and other essential supplies in affected areas. According to reports, the initiative will continue in multiple phases to reach more families.

Meanwhile, actor Kartik Aaryan donated ₹1 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support rehabilitation efforts. The Chief Minister’s Office acknowledged the contribution on social media, thanking the actor for his timely assistance.

Several other celebrities, including Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar, Guru Randhawa and Armaan Malik, have also appealed through social media for people to come forward and support relief efforts in Assam.

At a time when thousands of families are rebuilding their lives after the floods, the support extended by public figures, relief agencies and citizens has brought hope and encouragement to affected communities across the state.
