Students under the banner of All Assam Student’s Union ( AASU ) have blocked the National Highway at dozen places all over Assam in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 and use of police force against AASU members in Nalbari on Sunday.
Traffic came to a standstill at Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Morigaon, and sevral others town and National Highway all over state. The students shouted slogans against the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister.
This highway and road blockade is against the use of police force against AASU members in Nalbari on Sunday. As per reports stones were pelted and AASU workers were manhandled inside the police station in Nalbari by BJP workers on Sunday.
AASU members of the Nalbari unit had waved black flags to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal which later snowballed into a major tussle between AASU and BJP workers. The chief minister was in Nalbari to lay the foundation stone of Nalbari Medical College and Hospital.
Meanwhile the road blockade has created a massive jam on the national highway and has stalled the normal traffic movement.
