Assam CM visits SKF Automobile Skill Development Center at Kaziranga University

The chief minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal, paid a visit to the SKF Automobile Skill Development Center at Kaziranga University on 02 December 2019. He was received at the center by Basant Khetan, Pro-Chancellor, Dr PK Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Ms Rainy Khetan, Director, faculty, and students of the University as well as trainers belonging to Sambhav Foundation and trainees of the center.
Kaziranga University, in pursuit of its commitment to skill development, set up a ‘state-of-the-art’ Center in December 2018 in association with the renowned industrial house, M/s SKF India Ltd. for the training of underprivileged youth from the region in automobile service sector.
This is one of the five skill development centres set up in India by SKF and the only one in the entire North East.The center also serves as a valuable asset for the university for providing practical exposure to the students of Mechanical Engineering degree programmes.
Dr PG Ramesh, Dean (Centers of Excellence & Skill Development) explained the range and benefits of the training equipment in the centre to Honourable Chief Minister and all the dignitaries present on the occasion.
In the very first year of inception, about 300 youth have been/are being trained and a large number of them have been successfully placed in various automobile workshops such as those of TVS, Maruti, Ford, Tata, Bajaj and Hyundai.
Also, with a view to promote entrepreneurship, trainees who are desirous of setting up their own workshops are supported with a seed capital of Rs. 2, 00,000 from SKF India Limited. The Chief Minister evinced keen interest in the training equipment, methodology, achievements and entrepreneurship opportunities. He interacted briefly with the trainees of the center and students of the university before departing.
