Northeast Frontier Railway has decided to introduce a regular weekly express train between Dibrugarh and Silchar in Assam w.e.f. 8th April, 2018. The proposed new train will further strengthen the rail connectivity between Barak and Brahmaputra valley. Its like dream coming true for a huge section of population who are used to commute between Upper Assam and South Assam districts. They will now be able to undertake their journey without making any interchange mid-way.
The new service will be jointly flagged off by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal and Rajen Gohain, Minister of State of Railways from Dibrugarh at 06-00 pm on next Sunday in presence of other distinguished guests.
The regular service of the train will start from 16.04.2018 from Dibrugarh and from Silchar on 17.04.2018. Train number 15944 Dibrugarh – Silchar Express will leave Dibrugarh every Monday at 19-00 hrs to arrive at Silchar at 08-40 hrs on Tuesday.
During return journey the 15943 Silchar – Dibrugarh Express will leave from Silchar every Tuesday at 22-15 hrs to arrive Dibrugarh at 11-20 hrs next day. Frequency of the train will be increased to bi-weekly or more in due course of time after ascertaining the actual demand from passenger. The train will have AC 2 tier, AC 3 tier, Sleeper class and General Second class accommodation available.
The train will have stoppages at Sibsagar Town, Simaluguri Jn, Mariani Jn, Furkating Jn, Dimapur, Lumding, New Haflong, Badarpur Jn during its journey both ways.
The inaugural special train numbered as 05944 will leave Dibrugarh at 18-00 hrs on 8th April with open timings to arrive at Silchar at 08-40 hrs next day. Similarly during return journey special train 05943 will leave from Silchar on 9th April at 19-55 hrs with open timings to arrive Dibrugarh at 10-45 hrs next day.
The inaugural programme at Dibrugarh will be relayed through video link to Silchar where people would be able to view the function live and be a part of the historic occasion.
