Assam: Troops of Assam Rifles restore normalcy in Tinsukia

The districts of Tinsukia and Dibrugarh in Upper Assam have witnessed a surge in protests. The protests that initially began as peaceful, gradually turned violent with miscreants resorting to unlawful activities causing damage to public and private property.

The civil administration had with effect from 10 December 19, requisitioned assistance from the security forces for restoring peace & normalcy. Assam Rifles troops of Indian Army have played significant role in stabilizing the situation in Tinsukia of Assam.

As part of the ongoing assistance, requisition was received from the civil administration for restoring law and order and dispersing the agitating crowds that were threatening public life and vital installations in the areas of Digboi and Margherita.

Reacting swiftly to the request, troops of Assam Rifles mobilised columns to the affected area, dispersed agitating mobs, and cleared roadblocks at multiple locations in Margherita and Digboi. The columns also conducted flag marches in the affected areas thereby lending prophylactic security to the vital economic installations.

The timely, swift and professional execution of the tasks by the troops of Assam Rifles have prevented situation from escalating and getting out of hand thereby assisting in establishing normalcy in the area.
