BSF organises Half Marathon for Martyrs

Commemorating the supreme sacrifices made by the Border men while upholding the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the Nation, Mizoram and Cachar Frontier, BSF organised BSF Half Marathon on 22nd Oct’ 2017 in Silchar, Assam.
N S Jamwal, IG, BSF M & C Frontier, Silchar, chief guest for the occasion flagged off the 21 Kms long half marathon from District Sports Authority Ground, Silchar at 06:00 a.m. which concluded amidst great fanfare followed by prize distribution ceremony at BSF campus Masimpur.
Simultaneously a 5 Kms “Run For Fun” exclusively for women and children below 15 years was flagged off by the chief guest from the venue and terminated at Rangerkheri Point.
Inclement weather could not deter the spirit of the participants and people from all walks of life who witnessed the event.
Participants turned out in large numbers which reflected their wholehearted support for the noble cause. Approx. 825 participants, including men, women and children from different schools, colleges, NCC students, security force personnel etc took part in the Marathon with great enthusiasm. The run was a tribute to those brave souls who lost their lives in the line of duty.
With the timing of 1 Hr and 29 Mins, Shamim Ahmad from Silchar won the 21 Kms Half Marathon race and BSF Constables E Miniswer and Deewan Singh took the IInd and IIIrd position respectively.
A cash prize of Rs. 20,000/- , Rs. 15,000/- and Rs. 10,000 with trophies were distributed besides consolation prizes of Rs 2,000 each were given upto 8th position.
Miss Momta Fulmati and Master Nazomuddin Choudhary claimed the Girls and Boys title respectively in 5 Kms “Run For Fun”. Winners of the event up to 8th position were also awarded attractive cash prizes and trophies.
During the closing ceremony, N S Jamwal, IG BSF addressed the gathering and participants and paid tributes to the martyrs and exhorted that BSF, ever since its inception, has played a vital role in not only safe-guarding the International borders but also contributed immensely when called up for our country’s Internal Security and Anti Insurgency duties.
ill date more than 1850 BSF personnel have laid down their valuable lives for the nation. He thanked the sponsors, civil administration, police for traffic assistance, media persons, organizers and the participants for their valuable contribution in making the event a grand success. While culminating the ceremony, the Next of kin of the BSF martyrs hailing from Barak valley were felicitated and presented with mementos and gifts.
