Manipur: 3 killed, 30 injured as Land dispute turns violent in Ukhrul
Curfew imposed, internet suspended.
IMPHAL- At least three persons were killed and 30 others were injured in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Wednesday when two Naga villages clashed with each other over a dispute surrounding their boundaries.
Tension escalated between two groups from Hunphun and Hungpung villages in Ukhrul district over a longstanding land dispute. Reports indicate that the confrontation turned violent, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Many reportedly injured and the situation remains tense.
According to locals, a jawan of Manipur Rifles was among the dead. The injured were from both villages — Hunphun and Hungpung. A few were rushed to the state capital Imphal for advanced treatment.

The two villages have been caught in the conflict for a while. Two days ago, four houses were damaged in an attack in one of the villages, further flaring up the tension.
The land dispute between Hunphun and Hungpung has raised fears of a law and order situation that could escalate into violence, posing a threat to public peace and safety.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Ukhrul has imposed movement restrictions in the neutral zone between Thingrasa and Ngaphar villages due to rising tensions over a land dispute between Hunphun and Hungpung villages. The order, issued today by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dinringam Kamei, prohibits the movement of people outside their homes in the designated area from 9:30 AM onwards until further notice.
Meanwhile, the minister Khashim Vashum, and MLAs Ram Muivah and Leishiyo Keishing made a fervent appeal to the people to maintain peace.
