Manipur CM Visits Kanto Sabal, Reviews Reconstruction After Arson Incident
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited Kanto Sabal village in Imphal West district to review the reconstruction of houses damaged in a recent arson incident and reaffirmed the government's commitment to peace, security and development.

IMPHAL- Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday visited Kanto Sabal village in Imphal West district to oversee the reconstruction of six houses damaged in a recent arson incident and appealed to residents to uphold peace, unity and communal harmony.
Addressing villagers during the visit, the Chief Minister said peace and mutual trust among communities are essential for the state’s progress. He stressed that sustainable development is possible only in a peaceful environment where education, healthcare and infrastructure can flourish.
Emphasising the importance of coexistence, Singh urged all communities to work together to strengthen the spirit of brotherhood and ensure lasting peace. He said the government remains committed to creating an atmosphere where every citizen can live and move freely without fear.

The Chief Minister also stated that the state government is making sustained efforts to ensure the free movement of all communities along the National Highways passing through Manipur. Restoring normalcy across the state, he said, continues to be one of the government’s highest priorities.
During the visit, representatives of the Village Development Committee, Kanto Sabal, local Meira Paibis and community clubs submitted a memorandum outlining local development issues and security-related concerns. Among their key demands were enhanced security arrangements and measures to ensure the safety and unrestricted movement of residents.

Responding to the memorandum, the Chief Minister assured the villagers that the concerns raised would be examined on priority. He said the government would take appropriate action in consultation with the concerned departments and security agencies, reiterating its commitment to restoring normalcy, safeguarding public safety and continuing development initiatives across the state.
Kanto Sabal is located in Manipur’s lone Scheduled Caste (SC)-reserved Sekmai Assembly Constituency. Speaking on the occasion, local MLA H. Dingo Singh said the Chief Minister had taken significant initiatives towards restoring peace within a short period of assuming office.
He described the ongoing community conflict as a complex issue requiring time and collective effort to resolve, and appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid emotional reactions and cooperate in rebuilding lasting peace.
The visit reflects the government’s efforts to address both immediate rehabilitation needs and long-term peace-building measures in conflict-affected areas. Alongside reconstruction, the administration has indicated that improving security, restoring public confidence and ensuring inclusive development remain central to its strategy for achieving stability in the state.
