Meghalaya: Conrad Sangma Re-Elected as NPP President

Alongside Sangma’s re-election, Paknga Bage, former minister and working president of Arunachal Pradesh NPP, was elected unopposed as the General Secretary (Organisation) of the party.

SHILLONG- Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has been re-elected as the National President of the National People’s Party (NPP) for a fresh term extending till 2028. The election, held at the Constitutional Club of India in New Delhi, marks a significant milestone in the party’s ongoing efforts to expand its political presence across India.

Alongside Sangma’s re-election, Paknga Bage, former minister and working president of Arunachal Pradesh NPP, was elected unopposed as the General Secretary (Organisation) of the party. Additionally, Sangma’s wife, Mehtab Agitok Sangma, who is also the MLA of Gambegre, has retained her position as the Treasurer of the party.

In a notable development, Meghalaya NPP President Prestone Tynsong and Manipur NPP President Joy Kumar Singh have recommended that James Sangma, Conrad Sangma’s elder brother and outgoing General Secretary (Organisation), be appointed as the party’s Working President.

Following his re-election, Conrad Sangma expressed his gratitude to party members for their continued trust in his leadership. He also announced that the NPP National Committee for 2025-28 would be revealed shortly.

Sangma reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to expanding its national footprint while staying true to its core principles. He stated in a social media post, “Thank the NPP family for reaffirming their trust in my leadership by re-electing me as National President of the National People’s Party today. Together, we will continue to take NPP to national and regional prominence, along with the hopes and aspirations of our people.”

His re-election is seen as a strategic move to strengthen NPP’s influence beyond its traditional strongholds in Northeast India. Under his leadership, the NPP aims to broaden its reach nationally, leveraging its recognition as a national party by the Election Commission of India.

Founded by Purno Agitok Sangma in 2012, the NPP has long championed the rights and development of tribal communities. Since taking over the party’s leadership, Conrad Sangma has played a crucial role in transforming it from a regional entity into a national force.

Looking ahead, the party’s focus will be on, Strengthening its organizational structure, Enhancing grassroots connectivity and Formulating inclusive policies that appeal to a diverse electorate

With crucial elections on the horizon, Sangma’s leadership is expected to guide the party through complex political landscapes, solidifying the NPP as a formidable player in national politics.
