Mizoram: BJP reduced to zero in CADC after the lone MDC joins ruling MNF

KAMALANAGAR- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  has suffered a fatal blow in Chakma Autonomous District Council in Mizoram, after its only remaining elected member Mr Shanti Jiban Chakma has quit the party and joined  Mizo National Front (MNF) on 6th of October, 2021, informed district unit of MNF in a press statement.

Chakma’s unexpected decision came following the sudden reconstitution of the Chakma District BJP Committee on Saturday in which MLA Buddha Dhan Chakma was elected as  the District president, which he [Mr Shanti Jiban Chakma] claimed “hurt the sentiments of the people of CADC since it was constituted without  the knowledge of the concerned representative of the BJP”.

In his resignation letter dated 5th October, 2021, Mr Chakma also called the decision to appoint the new district president of BJP as “one sided” which he said had hurt his sentiment, being the only remaining elected member of BJP in CADC and prompted him to join the ruling MNF.

Mr Shanti Jiban, in his joining letter cited “lack of reliable leadership and scope in BJP” as the reason for his decision for his switchover, while appreciating the presence of visionary and stable leadership in the ruling MNF.

Before his joining, Chakma was the last remaining elected BJP member in Chakma Council after the other 7 members including Mrs Kusum Lota Chakma, the lone woman member had shifted their allegiance to the MNF. With his exit, BJP’s representation in the 20- member’s house in Chakma Autonomous District Council has been reduced to zero.
