Sikkim Police Arrest Samson Tamang from Bihar Over Hate Speech Incident

GANGTOK-  After nearly two weeks of manhunt, Sikkim police arrested Samsong Tamang,  accused of making hate-filled remarks against the Khas Community from Bodhgaya on Wednesday night. The operation was led by SDPO Tashi Chopel Bhutia, with assistance from Bihar Police in Gaya District.

The breakthrough came when technical inputs indicated Bodhgaya as Tamang’s hideout. Acting swiftly on this lead, the Sikkim Police team coordinated with Bihar Police to capture the accused. Tamang is currently in police custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.

The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), an opposition party, had demanded his arrest for allegedly making offensive remarks against the Khas community on social media. These remarks reportedly stirred communal tensions, leading to accusations of Tamang being a “stooge” of the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party, headed by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay).

The breakthrough came when technical inputs indicated Bodhgaya as Tamang’s hideout. Acting swiftly on this lead, the Sikkim Police team coordinated with Bihar Police to capture the accused. Tamang is currently in police custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sikkim Pradesh has lauded Sikkim Police for their swift and efficient operation leading to the arrest of Samson Tamang in Bodhgaya, Bihar, on February 19, following a 13-day manhunt over alleged hate remarks.

In a social media post Jacob Khaling, Political Secretary to Chief Minister stated that  “ The SKM Party firmly stands against any individuals or groups attempting to disrupt the peaceful environment of our state. We want to make it clear that such divisive actions will not be tolerated and will be met with decisive action.

The people of Sikkim have enjoyed peaceful coexistence for centuries. The Bhutia, Lepcha, and Nepali communities have always considered themselves one big family. It is this unity that defines us, and we are committed to protecting it against any threats, he added in the post.

Further he wrote, In these times, it is crucial that we support our law enforcement agencies as they work tirelessly to maintain the peace and unity that our state is known for.
