Guwahati

The third day of the GPlus Guwahati Theatre Festival showcased The Gentlemen’s Club aka Tape performed by Sheena Khalid, Puja Sarup, Rachel D’souza, Mukti Mohan and Ratnabali Bhattacharjee.

This unique theatrical production imagines what it would be like to have a club that allows drag kings to perform. A highlight in the play was Rocky aka Shammsher, who pays a tribute to the golden era of Hindi cinema and its star, Shammi Kapoor.

Till now, the festival has showcased plays – Mother Courage and Her Children, directed by known director Quasar Thakore Padamsee and Broken Images, directed by Alyque Padamsee.

“Without any particular message to give out, the play aimed to give the audience an experience that they can truly enjoy through snippets into the life of the drag kings and cabaret performances.

Leaving it open ended for the audiences to take back whatever they choose to from the act”, said Sheena Khalid, actor and co-founder of The Patchworks Ensemble.

The festival will end with its finale play on the 5th of November. Other plays of national prominence like, What’s Done is Done and Piya Behrupiya – all from leading theatre production houses of Mumbai will be showcased in the days to come.

The plays would feature popular names like Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Jim Sarbh, Trupti Khamkar, Dhvani Vij, among others.
