Assam; BJP Govt faces Embarrassment after Party’s MP levels corruption charges against ministers

Guwahati

The BJP-led coalition government in Assam facing major embarrassment after a party MP accused several ministers in the state cabinet of corruption.

Speaking to a local news channel recently, Tezpur MP R P Sharma said several ministers in the 16-month-old government take bribes in return for awarding contracts. He specifically accused irrigation and handlooms minister Ranjit Dutta of taking commission for each contract given away, however Dutta has denied the allegation.

Sharma’s allegations have created a embarrassment to the government, which came to power in May last year on the anti-corruption plank.

Meanwhile the party’s Assam unit convened an emergency meeting of state office bearers on Saturday to discuss the issue, three days after the news clip was aired on Wednesday.

On the other hand Assam chief minster Sarbananda Sonowal has asked Sharma to substantiate his claims, assuring that nobody would be spared if they are found to be true.
