Assam: 18-month-old child dies due to lack of oxygen in hospital
It is being told that the ambulance service did not have any oxygen cylinder to provide emergency oxygen to the patients.
DIBRUGARH: In a painful incident on Monday, an 18-month-old girl died due to lack of oxygen at a hospital in Romai Tea Estate in Dibrugarh, Assam.
It has been alleged that there is no doctor in Romai Tea Estate Hospital for the last one year and emergency facilities are not available in this Hospital.
It is being told that the ambulance service did not have any oxygen cylinder to provide emergency oxygen to the patients.
Sources say that the 18-month-old minor suddenly fell ill on Monday and was immediately taken to Garden Hospital for treatment, but in the absence of a doctor, the nurse referred the minor to AMCH.
Talking to reporters, the child’s father Amal Tanti said, ‘My minor child suddenly fainted on Monday. We immediately took him to Romai Tea Estate Hospital for treatment. After half an hour a nurse came and referred the child to AMCH for treatment. We took him in the garden ambulance, but it did not have oxygen. My minor girl child lost her life due to lack of oxygen.
A local said most garden hospitals in Assam lack basic facilities and doctors, so emergencies cannot be treated.
“The Romai Tea Estate hospital also lacks basic facilities and is without a GNM nurse. A resident claimed that despite the BJP-led government in Assam announcing schemes and health benefits for poor plantation workers, the garden management has failed to take any steps to upgrade the hospital.
An ATTSA member said, “Most of the health centers and hospitals in the garden lack basic facilities. Some emergency patients have also died due to the plight of Udyan Hospital. The garden management should take this matter seriously and solve the problem by discussing with the government.
