Assam CM Highlights Spiritual Significance of Hinglaj Mata Temple in Balochistan
The Hinglaj Mata Temple, situated in the Hingol Valley of Balochistan, is a centuries-old pilgrimage site that attracts devotees from across the subcontinent, particularly during the annual Hinglaj Yatra.

GUWAHATI— Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today emphasized the profound historical and spiritual importance of the Hinglaj Mata Temple, located in Balochistan, Pakistan, describing it as one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas in Hinduism.
In a statement shared on X, Sarma underscored the temple’s deep cultural and religious significance for Hindus, noting its unique position as a symbol of spiritual unity in a remote region.
“Nestled in the rugged terrains of the Hingol National Park, the temple is believed to mark the spot where the head of Goddess Sati fell, making it one of the holiest sites in Shaktism,” Sarma posted.

He highlighted that the Hinglaj Mata Temple, also known as Hinglaj Devi or Nani Mandir, holds a revered place in Hindu tradition and is one of only two Shakti Peethas in Pakistan, alongside Sharada Peeth.
The Hinglaj Mata Temple, situated in the Hingol Valley of Balochistan, is a centuries-old pilgrimage site that attracts devotees from across the subcontinent, particularly during the annual Hinglaj Yatra.
According to Hindu mythology, the temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, sacred sites associated with the goddess Sati. Legends state that these sites mark the locations where parts of Sati’s body fell after her self-immolation, with Hinglaj believed to be where her head landed.
Sarma’s remarks have drawn attention to the temple’s role as a bridge between communities, as it is respected not only by Hindus but also by local Baloch Muslims, who refer to the deity as “Nani” (grandmother).
Over the past three decades, the temple has grown in prominence, serving as a gathering point for Hindu communities in Pakistan and fostering interfaith harmony.
The Chief Minister’s statement comes amid his recent focus on cultural and historical ties, as well as regional dynamics involving Balochistan.
