NEW DELHI-Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday alleged that a 19-year-old student sustained severe eye injuries after being hit by pellets during the July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar.
Addressing a press conference, Gandhi presented the injured student before the media and claimed that the youth had suffered extensive damage to one eye, resulting in the loss or serious impairment of vision. He alleged that the injuries were caused by pellets fired during the police action against protesters.
The allegation has added a new dimension to the political debate surrounding the protest, with the Opposition demanding accountability and seeking an explanation over the circumstances that led to the student’s injuries.

However, the Delhi Police and the authorities have categorically denied the allegation, stating that pellet guns were not used during the crowd-control operation at Jantar Mantar.

While the Opposition has questioned the handling of the protest and sought accountability, the authorities continue to reject allegations regarding the use of pellet guns.
