Assam: Guwahati Asian Film Festival 2026 Opens at Jyoti Chitraban

The second edition of the Guwahati Asian Film Festival opened at Jyoti Chitraban, with day two set to screen six regional and international films.

GUWAHATI- The second edition of the Guwahati Asian Film Festival (GAFF) commenced on January 22, 2026, at Jyoti Chitraban in Guwahati, marking a celebration of Asian and Indian cinema through a curated selection of films from across the continent. The four-day festival will screen a total of 26 films from 10 Asian countries and will continue until January 25.

The inaugural ceremony was held on Thursday in the presence of filmmakers, guests and delegates from different parts of India and abroad. The festival is being organised by Trending Now Media with support from the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

GAFF 2026 opened with the Uzbekistan feature film Sunday, directed by Shokir Kholikov. The opening day also featured the India premiere of Japanese filmmaker Masahiro Ota’s S in the Asian Cinema section, and An Evening Ballad by Bishal Swargiary in the Indian Showcase (non-competition) category.

The second day of the festival, scheduled for January 23, will screen six films across multiple sections. These include Karbi-language film The Lost Path (Kangbo Aloti) by Khanjan Kishore Nath, Assamese films Morning Sunshine (Rador Pakhi) by Bobby Sarma Baruah and The Woodcutter (Gos Kota Manuh) by Prakesh Deka, Vietnamese film Cu Li Never Cries by Pham Ngoc Lan, and Manipuri film Phouoibee (The Goddess of Paddy) by Rakesh Moirangthem.

Apart from film screenings, GAFF 2026 will also host a series of masterclasses, panel discussions and interactive sessions featuring filmmakers, critics and industry professionals from India and other Asian countries. Organisers said the festival aims to create a platform for dialogue, collaboration and appreciation of diverse cinematic voices from Asia.
