Mizoram: Heroin Worth ₹9.18 Lakh Destroyed in Lunglei

The Lunglei District Disposal Committee destroyed heroin valued at ₹9.18 lakh as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and strengthen enforcement measures in Mizoram.

AIZAWL- Authorities in Lunglei district, Mizoram, destroyed heroin valued at approximately ₹9.18 lakh during an official disposal exercise conducted by the district’s disposal committee, officials said on Tuesday. The action forms part of broader anti-narcotics measures aimed at curbing drug trafficking and preventing the recirculation of seized substances.

According to officials, the destruction was carried out following due legal procedures after the contraband was confiscated in earlier enforcement operations. The disposal committee, comprising representatives from law enforcement agencies and district authorities, supervised the process to ensure transparency and compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Drug disposal programmes are routinely conducted after court approval to eliminate seized narcotics and reduce risks associated with storage and misuse. Officials noted that such exercises also serve as a deterrent against illegal trafficking networks operating along inter-state and international routes in the region.
