Assam Boat capsize: Bodies of two drowned victims recovered from Sonbeel
KARIMGANJ: Bodies of two persons who went missing following a boat capsize at Sonbeel here on Wednesday evening were recovered by a joint search and rescue operation by deep divers from Karimganj and Badarpur and SDRF team from Karimganj with support crew from Fire and Emergency Services at around 11.15 am on Thursday.
The bodies retrieved after almost a 15-hour long search operation were handed over to RK Nagar Police Station
Karimganj Superintendent of Police, Mayank Kumar said the mishap took place at around 4:30 pm on Wednesday and its circumstances will be probed by the District Disaster Management Authority.
Out of the five passengers sailing on the boat, Nilesh Das, his son, 17-year-old Ajit Das, and 7-year-old Dhanu Das, son of Manoranjan Das have been rescued.
50-year-old Ujjala Das, wife of Amaresh Das, a resident of Kalyanpur village, and 10-year-old Hasi Das, daughter of Bishnupada Das, a resident of Santipur village, died.
“After an almost 15-hour long search operation, the bodies were recovered. The bodies will be sent to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for autopsy and later it will be handed over to the family members,” said Circle Officer Vanlal Nampui Biate.
