At least four persons were feared dead on Thursday in Dima Hasao district of Assam that has been hit by flash flood and landslides disrupting road and rail communications following incessant rains.
At Hangrum, Ramsuahungle Riame, a 69-year-old woman and her son 35-year-old son Paotuingyuing Riame were found dead buried under heavy landslide.
At Kalachand under Mabang police station eight people and five dumper trucks were washed away in the Mahur river, but six of them were rescued. An SDRF team has been requisitioned for searching the missing persons.
Altogether 24 villages of the district under three blocks –Harangajao, Mahur and Maibang were reported to be affected due to landslides wherein many dwelling houses and the roads were damaged.
The rail communication between Lumding and Badarpur has been disrupted due to landslides in between Jatinga and Harangajao, and Daotuhaja and Phiding. All the trains were either terminated or sent back to originating stations. The restoration works are being carried out on a war footing.
The road communication was disrupted due to landslides at many portions like Jatinga-Harangajao, Haflong-Mahur, Jatinga-Haflong, etc. Deputy commissioner Amitabh Rajkhowa said the road communication between Lumding and Haflong would take three to four days for restoration as there has been heavy landslides near Kelelo and N Leikul.
