Former MLA and veteran CPI(M) leader Dipak Bhattacharjee passes away, DC Hailakandi condoles death

Former MLA and veteran CPI(M) leader, Dipak Bhattacharjee passed away on Tuesday at Silchar Medical College and Hospital following prolonged illness. He was 79 and survived by his wife.

Bhattacharjee, who was suffering from kidney-related problems, breathed his last at around 6.15 am, his family sources said.

Elected from Hailakandi constituency in 1978, Bhattacharjee held important party positions at both state and national levels.

The mortal remains was brought to Hailakandi town and kept at the CPI(M) office where people from all walks of life paid their last respects to the departed leader. Later the mortal remains mounted on a vehicle was taken around the main thoroughfares of Hailakandi town before it was taken to Silchar for his last rites.

Following the news of his demise, Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi, Keerthi Jalli extended her heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family on behalf of the district administration and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Different organisations, including Public Forum condoled his death and offered condolences to the bereaved family.
