Assam: Guwahati Doctor Missing at Parshuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh, Search Operation Intensifies

GUWAHATI – A Guwahati-based physician, Dr. Debenjit Kumar Sharma, has been reported missing since May 31, 2025, from the Parshuram Kund area in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit district, prompting an extensive search operation by local authorities.
Dr. Sharma, who hails from Guwahati, was on a solo trip to the scenic pilgrimage site and was staying at a riverside resort near the Lohit River, which has been swelling due to continuous monsoon rains.
Parshuram Kund , the sacred pilgrimage site, located along the turbulent Lohit River, has been the focus of intensified efforts to locate the missing doctor.

According to sources, Dr. Sharma was staying at a resort near Parshuram Kund, approximately 48 km from Tezu, the headquarters of Lohit district. His motorcycle, camera, protective gear and other belongings were found in the area, but he remains untraceable.
Authorities suspect that the doctor may have been swept away by the strong currents of the Lohit River, which has seen rising water levels due to recent heavy rainfall. “We suspect he may have gone near the river and was swept away by the rising floodwaters,” said a senior police officer.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local police, has deployed teams to scour the river and surrounding areas. Despite exhaustive efforts, no trace of Dr. Sharma has been found as of June 3. Relatives of the doctor have traveled to Wakro to coordinate with officials and assist in the search operation.
Parshuram Kund, a revered Hindu pilgrimage site, attracts thousands of visitors annually, particularly during the monsoon season. However, the rising water levels and unpredictable currents of the Lohit River have raised concerns about visitor safety. Authorities have issued advisories urging caution due to the hazardous conditions.
