Assam: ABSU seeks speedy implementation of Bodo Accord 2020 in 57th Annual Conference

ABSU Adopts Key Resolutions on Organizational Reform, Education, and Bodo Accord Implementation at 57th Annual Delegate Session

KOKRAJHAR- The adjourned Delegate Session of the 57th Annual Conference of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) resumed on June 3 at the Jwhwlao Nileswar Brahma Auditorium, Bodoland University, culminating in the adoption of six landmark resolutions spanning organizational reform, educational advancement, environmental action, and socio-political advocacy.

Presided over by Speaker Abit Narzary and Deputy Speaker Bibari Boro, the house held detailed deliberations and finalized several decisions vital to the future roadmap of the Bodo movement and community welfare.

🔹 Resolution Highlights:

  1. Organizational Restructuring & Volunteer Training:

The house resolved to launch comprehensive training under the ‘Bodofa Camp’, focusing on organizational discipline, Bodofa ideology, voluntary community service, physical fitness, and disaster response preparedness. A special committee will examine amendments to the ABSU constitution, proposing to extend the term of members from two to three years. A second volume of ABSU’s official history (1993–2025) is also set to be documented.

Upcoming key dates:

  • World Environment Day (June 5): Over 1 lakh saplings to be planted.
  • Bodoland Martyrs Day (June 12): To be observed at Bijni, Chirang District.
  1. Full Implementation of the 2020 Bodo Accord:

ABSU urged the Government of India and Assam Government to expedite the remaining clauses of the Bodo Accord 2020, including:

  • Passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill for Sixth Schedule.
  • Inclusion of villages from Sonitpur, Biswanath, Goalpara, and South Kamrup.
  • Provincialisation of Bodo schools, release of former NDFB cadres, and establishment of institutions listed in the Accord.
  1. Mission Quality Education Movement 2030:

The union committed to continuing its campaign for quality Bodo-medium education and demanded:

  • Timely delivery of free textbooks.
  • Inclusion of Bodo as associate official language in 13 districts.
  • Expansion of departments at Bodoland University and establishment of a new campus in Udalguri.
  1. Bodofa Mission for Sustainable Change:

A strong social reform push was announced to eliminate drugs, alcohol abuse, child marriage, and protect indigenous land rights under FRA and land laws.

  1. Honoring Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma:

The house resolved to install Bodofa statues across the Northeast and other Indian cities. ABSU extended heartfelt gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for unveiling Bodofa’s statue and naming a road after him in New Delhi, and to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for support.

  1. Bodoland Mohotsav 2.0 Announced:

The mega cultural festival Bodoland Mohotsav 2.0 will be held in November 2025 at Kokrajhar, with the President of India to be invited as the chief guest.
