Assam: Guwahati Police seize Heroin worth Rs 18 Cr, 6 Drug peddlers arrested

After receiving  and information  about a Thar vehicle  bearing Regn No AS 01 FM 7800 was carrying narcotics from Churachandpur in Manipur to Lower Assam Districts.

GUWAHATI-   Assam police arrested  six alleged drug peddlers in Guwahati, including three residents of Manipur’s Churachandpur, with 2.2 kg heroin worth of Rs 18 Cr.  in their possession, police official said.

After receiving  and information  about a Thar vehicle  bearing Regn No AS 01 FM 7800 was carrying narcotics from Churachandpur in Manipur to Lower Assam Districts. Accordingly, the vehicle was intercepted at Saraighat on Kamrup side and three Manipur based peddlers were apprehended and subsequently the 3  Assam based peddlers were supposed to receive the consignment were also apprehended from Sachika Hotel at Amingaon.

The vehicle was searched and hidden compartments built in the Thar yielded 170 pkts/ soap cases of heroin weighing 2 kg 200 gms without cover. The estimated market value of the seized drugs worth Rs 18 crore approximately.

The operation was led by DIG Dr Parthasarathi Mahanta and Kamrup district additional superintendent of police Kalyan Kumar Pathak, according to senior Assam Police officers.

Samingon Doungel (29), Gogou Haokip (37), Haopu Singson (43), Inamul Ali (32), Khalilur Rahman, and Abdul Ali have been arrested.

Doungel is a resident of Zionveng village in the Churachandpur district of Manipur, whereas Gogou Haokip and Haopu Singson are from surrounding villages in the same district.

The remaining three are from Assam. Inamul Ali is from the Darrang district’s Sipajhar region, while Khalilur Rahman and Abdul Ali are from the Kamrup district.

According to the police, the shipment was headed for West Bengal and arrived from Manipur via Mizoram and the Barak Valley region of Assam.

The arrested individuals are being questioned, according to Pathak, who informed HT that they are looking into the situation.

It was a joint STF and Kamrup Police ops carried out under the supervision of Shri Parthasarathi Mahanta, DIG STF and legal action will be initiated at Amingaon OP.
