Assam: Hailakandi administration acts swiftly to mitigate public woes

Responding to public woes, the Hailakandi district administration stepped in and directed the PWD(Rural Roads) to start immediate repairing of the stretch from Shivbari Road to Katlicherra bus stand in Hailakandi town.

Following the directive from Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan, the PWD(Rural Roads) swung into action and began repairing of the stretch of road despite inclement weather to mitigate the hardships of the commuters.

Circle Officer, Hailakandi, Tridip Roy, who have had meetings with the PWD(Rural Roads) said the officials assured him that they would carry out widening of the road till the edge of the pavement on both sides after the monsoons are over.

Ever since he took over the reins of the administration, Deputy Commissioner Khan has been according top priority to maintenance of existing roads whether it be State Roads, National Highways and Rural Roads and setting deadlines for construction of delayed projects. In the monthly District Development Committee (DDC) meetings, Khan reviews the status of progress of road projects and exhorts upon the officials of the constructing agencies to keep the roads in good shape, reminding them that ‘roads are lifelines of communication and highway to prosperity’. Not content with the feedback he receives from the officials, Khan goes out on a whirlwind tour, personally inspecting the condition of roads and ongoing projects in the district and giving necessary directions to make them motorable.

Even in the Public Grievances Redressal Day, a mechanism he put in place, providing direct access to the public to interact with him and senior officials every Tuesday, Khan is seen directing the heads of the roads constructing agencies to act upon the public grievances swiftly and to submit action taken report. Of the 315 public complaints related to PWD and other departments, 63 have been disposed of, 10 rejected and the rest are under process.

Khan is on a mission mode and that is to catapult Hailakandi, the most backward district of India, to an aspirational district through a slew of administrative reforms as well as redressal of public grievances.
