Assam: Hailakandi observes Rashtriya Ekta Diwas

With the rest of the nation  Hailakandi district administration, Assam  also observed Rashtriya Ekta Diwas .

The Hailakandi district administration observed Rashtriya Ekta Diwas coinciding with the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of the founding fathers of the Republic of India, on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi, Adil Khan led from the front in fostering and reinforcing the administration’s dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of the nation by observing the day in a befitting manner.

Khan exhorted one and all to take the solemn pledge in the spirit of unification of the country made possible by the vision and action of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and to make one’s contribution to ensure internal security of the country. “From east to west and from north to south, the oneness of India has been brought out by none other than the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel through unification of several independent princely states,” said Khan.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Amalendu Roy administered the pledge to the officials and employees ‘to preserve unity, integrity and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread this message among fellow countrymen’.

A ‘Run for Unity’ was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Khan and Superintendent of Police, Mohneesh Mishra that traversed through the main thoroughfares of Hailakandi town before converging in the DC’s office complex. Officials and employees from different government departments, Assam Police personnel, students from Netaji Subhas Academy, volunteers from Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), National Cadet Corps, members of civil society and eminent personalities participated in the rally. The rally was organised by the district administration in association with Office of Inspector of Schools, District Sports Office and NYKS.

The district administration also observed Rashtriya Sankalpa Diwas, the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on Wednesday. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Roy administered an oath of taking all steps to preserve national integrity and communal harmony. The officials and employees who took the oath also pledged not to give any scope for violence and solve contentious issues through dialogue. Additional Deputy Commissioner EL Fairhiem, DSP, Jagadish Das, Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha, District Sports Officer, Jimli Borah, District Youth Coordinator, NYKS, SR Deb, DIPRO, Sabir Nishat and several other officials were present on the occasion.

Pledges were also taken by government employees in circle, block and other offices across the district.
