In a joint operation based on specific intelligence, troops of Army’s Red Horns Division and Assam Police eliminated a hardcore militant of NDFB(S) in Akshiguri area of Kokrajhar District today. The operation was carried out in the wee hours of Saturday, 27th January. A pistol and ammunition were also recovered in the operation.
On receipt of information, the team swiftly carried out search of the area and during the operation, movement of armed persons was detected, who on being challenged, opened indiscriminate fire on the joint Army Police team.
In the controlled retaliatory fire by the security forces in self defence, one armed terrorist, later identified as Ricardo Hazuary alias Rekhai, son of Bijoy, resident of Village Kusumbil Number 02 was killed. The individual is a trained terrorist and a listed cadre of NDFB(S) and close accomplice of Sandw, a dreaded terrorist of the outfit.
Reportedly, he was involved in shooting a local contractor, Rasna Basumatary s/o Jakob Basumatary on 16th November 2017. After Sandw’s elimination, Ricardo Hazuary joined Derhasart alias Jayla of 39th batch and was leading all extortion and subversive activities in the region. One 9 mm pistol along with ammunition and incriminating documents have been recovered from the terrorist.
An augmented security posture and a high state of vigil were being maintained by the Army and the Police in view of the 69th Republic Day celebrations. This operation is a major setback to the terrorist group NDFB(S), which is already reeling under pressure from the security forces.
There is a growing disenchantment with the terrorist outfits for the people of Assam, who have seen successful elections in Assam and good governance coupled with steady growth of all human resource development parameters over the last few years.
