Assam: Kismat Bano wins ‘Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar’

GUWAHATI-   Kismat Bano of Guwahati  is one of the eight young artistes chosen for the ‘Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar’ award for the year 2020. The Akademi made the announcement in a press release issued recently.

Kismat has been given the award for her excellence in acting in theatre. In the past, Kismat was also selected for the Young Talents Artistes Award for the year 2016-2017 by the selection committee of the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) under the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India.

The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, awarded to artists under the age of 40, was established in 2006 with the goal of identifying and encouraging outstanding young talents in various fields of performing arts and providing them with national recognition early in their careers, allowing them to work with greater commitment and dedication in their chosen fields.

Kismat Bano, who previously obtained a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has recently performed at major drama festivals across India and overseas. Two of her plays, ‘Helen’ and ‘Bano,’ which were presented in Guwahati, garnered praise from critics from the city’s theatregoers as well as critical approval from the press.

Kismat Bano has previously appeared in over 30 plays in several languages, including Assamese and Hindi, and these plays have been produced in many major cities across the country. Aakaas, Madyhyabartini, Jatra, The Lesson, Komala Kuwori, Helen, and Puhor are a few of these plays.

She has also performed in a number of prestigious theatrical events and festivals, including Bharat Rang Mahotsav, Nandikar, EZCC, Sangeet Natak Academy Festival, Prithvi, Nehru Centre, PDA festivals, Kalakshetra Chennai, Octave festival (Goa and Rajasthan), and Qadir Ali Baig theatre festival.

Kismat’s own theatre club, ‘Wings Theatre’ (culture organisation), has assisted and taught numerous young actors to prove their worth on the stage. Kismat expressed her gratitude to her parents, the Sangeet Natak Akademi, and the state of Assam in a social media statement.
