Assam: Meeting on ST status failed, massive rally on July 30
A crucial meet between representatives of six communities of Assam and officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs on the issue of ST Status to those six group was held at New Delhi on Friday.
But unfortunately , soon after the meeting attended by Union home secretary Rajib Gauba, representatives of the six communities expressed discontentment alleging that the Centre is deliberately delaying the process of granting ST status and fooling the people.
The representatives further alleged that if the Centre finds itself in trouble, it tries to pacify the situation by only going for temporary solution.
The meet assumes significance since the six communities namely Moran, Motok, koch Rajbongshi, Tai Ahom, Chutia and tea tribes have intensified their demands for granting them Scheduled Tribe status.
Meanwhile, leaders of these ethnic communities threatened to hold a massive rally here on July 30, demanding the intervention of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister to take the dialogue process forward.
The six communities warned that the Sonowal Government should be ready to face the consequences during the 2019 elections if their demands were not fulfilled.
