Northeast Frontier Railway celebrated the 69th Republic Day of our Nation in befitting manner. The central programme was held at the Maligaon Railway stadium, where Chahatey Ram, General Manager of N.F.Railway unfurled the National Flag and inspected March-past by RPF contingents, Territorial Army contingents, Civil Defence, school children and Bharat Scouts & Guides.
An impressive cultural programme depicting the unity in diversity of our nation organised during the occasion was also enjoyed by everyone present.
In his speech General Manager emphasised about the need to be totally in synchronization with the vision of our Prime Minister and Railway Minister towards making Indian Railway a growth engine for the nation. He said that, safety of railway travellers is of utmost concern and is one of our paramount duties. There cannot be any laxity or compromise as far as safety is concerned.
General Manager informed that keeping trains and premises clean and hygienic is a big challenge for Indian Railways. “Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat” mission have imbibed cleanliness and environmental conservation consciousness in our working.
Efforts are on to ensure that all stations and trains remain clean by sensitizing staff and customers. However, these efforts need to be sustained with more periodic and systematic drives. To reduce carbon foot print, 156 stations have been provided with 100% LED lighting system. Solar energy generating capacities have also been increase to 1833 KWp.
General Manager informed that to provide clean potable drinking water to passengers, water vending machines have been installed at 10 stations while 24 brands of packaged drinking water have been short listed for selling in railway premises. To provide cleaner lilen to passengers, a 2.5 tonne capacity mechanized laundry has been installed at Dibrugarh. Free WiFi services have been provided at 14 stations.
General Manager also informed that, in view the ever-increasing demand of passengers for new train services, 7 new passenger-carrying trains including prestigious services like Shatabdi Express have been introduced in the current year, 12 conventional rakes were replaced with DEMU rakes. 29 mail / express trains have been permanently augmented by attaching 64 coaches thereby adding more than 4426 additional berths/seats. This year 450 children have been rescued from the clutch of traffickers, contraband worth Rs. 1.6 crores has been recovered by the RPF.
General Manager lauded the performance of Smt Mirabai Chanu and Smt Sanjita Chanu of N.F.Railway who had won Gold medals in Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship held at Australia. Smt Mirabai Chanu also won gold in the World Weightlifting Championship held at USA.
Later the General Manager along with members of N.F.Railway Women’s Welfare Organization (NFRWWO) distributed fruits and other items of medical importance amongst the admitted patients of the N.F.Railway Central Hospital, Maligaon.
The Republic Day was also celebrated in all the five Divisions of N.F.Railway viz. Tinsukia, Lumding, Rangiya, Alipurduar and Katihar, where the Divisional Railway Manager unfurled the National Flag in presence of Divisional railway officials and their family members.
