Assam: Sonowal inaugurates gas insulated substation of APDCL

Dibrugarh: ( By-Anil Poddar ) Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today inaugurated a gas insulated substation of APDCL, first-of-its-kind in upper Assam,  in Dibrugarh. The sub centres containing two transformers, each with capacity of 33/11 kv and 10 MVA, is set up with an expenditure of Rs 7.50 crore and it is expected to fill up the demand-supply gap of electricity in Dibrugarh while ensuring uninterrupted power supply. Chances of developing snag in these gas insulated sub stations are minimal and they are very secure.

Saying that Dibrugarh City has a glorious history of more than 180 years which was renowned as an industrial hub during the British era, Sonowal informed that Dibrugarh had power connections long back in 1936 and citizens of Dibrugarh must uphold the legacy of this historic city.

Stressing on the available resources of Dibrugarh to become a smart city of the future, Sonowal pointed to the streamlining of power supply, water connections, infrastructure development etc as important initiatives for the growth of the city. He also called on the people to keep the city clean for attracting the tourists.

Saying that the setting up of the gas insulated substation in Dibrugarh would greatly benefit the consumers in the city, Sonowal stated that only lighting up the city would not be enough as cleanliness must also be maintained. He also said that previous government had erected 66 thousand wooden and bamboo electricity poles in Assam in a very unsafe and haphazard manner which have been removed by the present state government and replaced with 84 thousand concrete poles. He informed that underground laying of power cables would be taken up in Dibrugarh after Guwahati.

The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi all round development of the country was being achieved to a great extent and highlighted initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, construction of free toilets etc for being successful in bringing mass awareness about cleanliness and hygiene.

Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, also spoke in the programme which was attended by MLAs Rituparna Barua, Bimal Bora, Chairman of APDCL V. K. Pipersenia among others.
