CAB Protest: Internet service suspended in Assam

from 7pm of 11th December to 7pm of 12th December, 2019


Authorities in Assam have suspended mobile internet / Data service for 12 hours, starting from 7 pm on Wednesday.

The state government of Assam suspend the mobile internet /data services in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Kamrup Metro, Kamrup district of Assam for 24 hours from 7pm of 11th December to 7pm of 12th December, 2019 in view of prevailing situation in Assam.

The government has issued the notification in the apprehension of igniting further protests through WhatsApp, and other social media network.

In this regard a govt notification has been issued by Kumar Sanjay Krishna, additional chief secretary, Home and Political Department. According to the notification, mobile internet and data services of all mobile service providers have been suspended for the next 24 hours in 10 districts of the state.

The promulgation of the notification is under the provision of Section 5(2) of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.

The violation of the promulgation will be punishable under Section 188 of the IPC and also under the relevant provision of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, said the notification.
