IMPHAL- The 12-hour total shutdown has begun in the Kuki-Zo-dominated areas of Manipur at 6 am today. The shutdown called by the Kuki Inpi, the Apex Body of the Kukis in Manipur.
Kuki Inpi has called for a 12-hour shutdown in Kuki-Zo-dominated areas of the state from 6 am to 6 pm on Wednesday in protest against the arrest of two Kuki-Zo village volunteers in the Jiribam district on Tuesday.

Of the two arrested, one is said to be a juvenile from Phaitol village while the other has been identified as Kaplal Singson (35) s/o Thangkhosem of Phaitol village.
“The Kuki Inpi also urged all regional organizations to abide by this response to express solidarity for the common cause of our people.

Tension prevailed in Manipur’s Jiribam district, on Tuesday after miscreants carried out an arson attack on the residence of a prominent Kuki leader, media report said.
The torched house belongs to Seijathang Khangsai, former secretary of Kuki Inpi Manipur, at Phaitol village in Jiribam district.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur stated that the presence of central security forces, which initially provided a sense of safety and security to the Kuki people, is now “critically alarming” for the tribal community.
