Manipur: Students stage protest in Imphal demanding rescue of two missing boys

Lamshang Police Station has registered a missing case of two youths. 

IMPHAL-  Hundreds of school students staged a protest rally in Imphal demanding justice for two boys who were missing since Sunday. Lamshang Police Station has registered a missing case of two youths.

Tension gripped some parts of Manipur as two teenage boys went missing from Imphal West district on Sunday. The two were identified as Avinash Maibam (16), and Anthony Ningthoujam (19), both residents of the Lamshang area.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of two missing boys- Avinash Maibam and Anthony Ningthoujam  on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Governor Anusuiya Uikey.

After meeting the Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Monday, MLA of Lamshang Assembly Constituency Sorokhaibam Rajen said the Governor gave assurance to the JAC and locals that the state is working proactively to find the missing youths.

Family members said the two boys left their houses on a two-wheeler at 9 a.m. on Sunday to attend meeting at Sekmai.  The duo did not pick up their mobile phones despite repeated calls. On complaining to the cybercrime branch, both mobile phones were recovered near a bus stop in Senapati district. However, there was no trace of the two boys or the two-wheeler they used.

Meanwhile, Meira Paibis have launched road blockades on NH-37, connecting Imphal to Silchar via Jiribam, disrupting traffic flow. They have also joined the chorus of voices demanding the swift recovery of the missing youths.

Combined search operations by security forces are underway in the suspected locations. The police are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to bring the missing students back home safely.
