Assam: Two extremists lynched to death in Cachar

Two suspected NSCN (K) militants were beaten to death by villagers in Assam’s Cachar district on Saturday.

Two extremists, who were thrashed by an irate mob before being handed over to police at Harinagar under Joypur police station of Lakhipur subdivision of Cachar district on Saturday, died while undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital here.

According to source Some villagers spotted a six-member militant group with heavy arms in the area and immediately informed other people.  Within 15 minutes, a large number of people gathered at the area and caught two militants of the group.

The local people caught them with arms and beaten them and informed police. Four militants of the group had managed to flee from the area.

Later, security personnel had recovered both in serious condition and immediately rushed to hospital, where they were succumbed to their injuries. The deceased militants are yet to be identified.

Security personnel recovered three AK-56 rifles, one 12 bore single barrel rifle, one Chinese LMG rifle, two 5.56 mm rifle,

Police sources  said the ultras were arrested around 11:30 am and seven AK-47 rifles, three AK-56 rifles, two 5.56 mm rifles, one 12 bore single barrel rifle, one LMG, one hand grenade, one pistol and a large cache of ammunition were recovered from their possession.  Further search operation is being carried out in the area close to the boundary of Dima Hasao district.
