Assam: Three PFI & CFI Leader arrested in Barpetta

GUWAHATI-  Assam Police on Saturday arrested three leaders of banned organizations Popular Front of India (PFI) and Campus Front of India (CFI) in Barpeta district. The police also recovered Rs 1.50 lakh in cash, four mobile phones and a pamphlet of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) from their possession.

Additional Director General of Police (SB) Hiren Nath told media that,  the arrested PFI and CFI leaders have been identified as PFI State Secretary Zakir Hussain, Abu Sama and CFI National Treasurer Sahidul Islam.

Last month, the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act Tribunal (UAPA Tribunal) upheld the Central Government’s decision to ban PFI and its affiliates for five years. It was presided over by Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma of the Delhi High Court.

In the month of September last year, the Center had declared PFI illegal under Section 3 of UAPA. PFI and its associate organizations were banned for five years for indulging in illegal activities prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country. The Union Home Ministry had alleged that some PFI activists had joined the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and participated in terrorist activities there.

Along with PFI, the central government has also banned Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imam Council (AIIC), NCHRO, National Mahila Morcha, Junior Morcha, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala. Imposed. Over 150 people allegedly linked to the PFI were detained in raids last year in seven states.
