Assamese Teachers in Bodo Medium School- ABSU Oposes

Kokrajhar

The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) has strongly opposed the appointment of Assamese teachers in Bodo-medium schools of the State. In a press statement issued on Thursday, ABSU president Promod Boro alleged that the appointment process was a deliberate act of negligence and a conspiracy to destroy the Bodo-medium schools. He warned that the ABSU would launch a Statewide mass agitation if the Government failed to resolve the issue and come out with a specific policy.

Talking to northeastindia24 Boro said that, It is very disheartening that teachers from Assamese-medium background, who do not have any knowledge of the Bodo language, are being appointed in Bodo-medium schools.

ABSU president further said that, “according to language experts, the mother tongue is the best medium of instruction for a student and the RTE Act, 2009, also mentions it in Chapter V, Section 29(f)”. “We pursued the matter with the authorities concerned on many occasions, but apart from assurances, nothing has been done so far,” Boro said .

“There are three mediums of instruction (Assamese, Bodo and Bengali) in the State, but the Assamese teachers are being considered for all the mediums,” the ABSU president complained.
