New Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi distrcit of Assam, Adil Khan said his administration will adopt zero tolerance policy against corruption and development alone will be his agenda.
Addressing the media persons at his office chamber here yesterday evening after assuming office, Deputy Commissioner Khan said, “My administration will toe the line of the Chief Minister’s avowed objective of zero tolerance against corruption. Anyone found indulging in unfair or corrupt practices will not be spared.”
Spelling out his priorities, Khan said his first and foremost duty is to ensure maintenance of law and order. “Peace and development is intertwined and both must go hand in hand. People must realise this and strengthen the hands of the administration so it can concentrate on development,” said Khan, a 2011 batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre.
Khan said with a view to weed out corruption from all spheres of administration he would closely monitor the implementation of all schemes so that they reach out to the beneficiaries for whom they are meant. “I will ensure that there is no pilferage or anomaly in any Government scheme,” he asserted.
Spelling out his priorities, Khan said he would focus on health and education and other important issues such as the ongoing NRC updation process, making preparations for holding of panchayat elections and Aadhaar enrollment exercise.
Exuding optimism that he would be able to face up to the challenges confronting him and fulfill the high expectations of the people, Khan said, “Problems exist everywhere but they do not deter me in any manner. And I am fully prepared to overcome the problems plaguing the district with help and cooperation of the people.”
Khan made it clear that he would not tolerate any dilly-dally insofar as implementation of schemes and policies are concerned. “I am here to take things to logical conclusions and would not tolerate any dilly-dally on the part of any official,” he said, adding that strict action would be initiated against those found guilty.
Seeking the support and cooperation of the members of the press, Khan said as watchdog of democracy they would have to play a pivotal role in bringing the administration closer to the people and to allay fears or apprehensions from the minds of the people insofar as ongoing NRC updation exercise is concerned.
Earlier, members from the Hailakandi Press Club felicitated the Deputy Commissioner and exchanged pleasantries with him. District Development Commissioner, FR Laskar was present on the occasion.
