Himanta Meets Ashwini in Delhi, Seeks Faster Rail Connectivity Projects

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma discusses semiconductor development and key railway projects with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to accelerate Assam's industrial growth.

NEW DELHI-  Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday met Union Minister for Railways, Information Technology and Electronics Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi to discuss strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the state’s semiconductor ecosystem and expanding railway infrastructure.

The meeting, held at Rail Bhawan, focused on accelerating industrial development, improving connectivity, and enhancing Assam’s role in India’s emerging technology and manufacturing sectors.

During the discussions, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the Union Minister for his support and constructive engagement on key projects concerning Assam.

Sarma sought the guidance and support of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to position Assam as an important contributor to India’s semiconductor mission. He highlighted the State Government’s commitment to developing a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem by promoting both upstream and downstream activities, including semiconductor fabrication and packaging.

The Chief Minister said strengthening the semiconductor sector would create new opportunities for investment, technology-driven industries, and skilled employment in Assam.

The meeting also reviewed several important railway infrastructure projects aimed at improving regional connectivity.

Among the key proposals discussed was the Lanka–Umrangso railway line, which is expected to significantly enhance transportation links to the hill districts. Sarma also requested the Union Minister to expedite the proposed India–Bhutan railway project, describing it as an important initiative for improving regional connectivity, facilitating trade, and supporting long-term economic growth.

Expressing optimism over the discussions, the Chief Minister said the initiatives would contribute significantly to Assam’s industrial expansion, infrastructure development, and overall economic transformation.

He added that the State Government would continue working closely with the Central Government and provide updates on the progress of these projects in the coming days.
