Assam: PM Modi Inaugurates and Lays Foundation Stones for ₹6,500-Crore Projects in Darrang

DARRANG- Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth around ₹6,500 crore in Assam’s Darrang district, calling the day a “historic milestone in Assam’s growth journey.”
Addressing a massive gathering, the PM underlined that Assam is now among the fastest-growing states with a growth rate of nearly 13%, making it a key driver in India’s development story. “India is the world’s fastest-growing country, and Assam is playing a major role in this transformation,” he said, crediting the people of the state and the joint efforts of Union and State governments.

Highlighting the importance of connectivity, PM Modi announced the Kurua–Narengi bridge over the Brahmaputra and the Guwahati Ring Road Project, which will reduce travel time, ease urban traffic, and create Assam’s first seamless multi-modal connectivity network. He said these projects will “make travel more accessible, boost tourism, and generate employment opportunities for the youth.”

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Darrang Medical College & Hospital along with a GNM School and Nursing College, noting that Assam’s medical colleges have expanded from just six before 2014 to 24 today. He emphasized that healthcare expansion is creating opportunities for aspiring doctors and ensuring affordable treatment across the state.

During his speech, Modi also announced GST reforms to be rolled out from Navratri, including reduced tax rates on cement, insurance, medicines, and vehicles, making essential items and healthcare more affordable.
Touching upon security, the PM warned of “conspiracies to alter the demographic balance in border areas through infiltration” and announced a nationwide Demography Mission to counter the threat. He lauded Assam’s efforts under CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, especially the reclamation of land from infiltrators for projects like the Gorukhuti Agricultural Project.

Concluding his address, PM Modi reiterated that the 21st century’s next chapter belongs to the East and the Northeast, and called upon citizens to remain “vocal for local” to strengthen India’s economy.
