Assam: PM Modi Inaugurates Assam Bioethanol Plant, Lays Foundation for Polypropylene Unit in Golaghat

PM Modi said that India has embarked on the path of self-reliance in meeting its energy needs, reducing dependence on fossil fuel imports.

GOLAGHAT-   Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Assam Bioethanol Plant and laid the foundation stone for a Polypropylene Unit at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) in Golaghat, calling the projects “a milestone in India’s clean energy and industrial growth journey.”

Addressing a public gathering, PM Modi said that India has embarked on the path of self-reliance in meeting its energy needs, reducing dependence on fossil fuel imports. He emphasized that the new bamboo-based bioethanol plant will not only promote green energy but also benefit farmers and tribal communities by creating steady demand for bamboo and associated industries.

The Prime Minister highlighted that around ₹18,000 crore worth of projects have been dedicated to Assam in the past two days, covering connectivity, healthcare, and energy security. He stated, “India is now among the world’s top five countries in solar power, and Assam is playing a vital role in strengthening our energy capabilities.”

Laying the foundation for the Polypropylene Plant, PM Modi said it would boost Assam’s petrochemical sector, create new jobs, and provide raw material for industries producing textiles, packaging, automotive, and medical equipment. He remarked that Assam’s identity, long known for tea, silk, and cultural heritage, will now expand to include ‘Make in Assam’ petrochemicals and textiles.

The PM also underlined Assam’s growing role in the Semiconductor Mission, noting the upcoming ₹27,000 crore semiconductor factory in Morigaon, and reiterated that energy and semiconductors are the two key pillars of India’s future self-reliance.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Hardeep Singh Puri, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
