Assam down town University Hosts IndiaSkills NE Meet
Assam down town University hosted the IndiaSkills Northeast Regional Competition 2026, highlighting excellence in tourism and hospitality skills among youth from the region.

GUWAHATI- Assam down town University hosted the IndiaSkills Northeast Regional Competition 2026, a regional round of India’s premier vocational skills championship, at its Hospitality Lab under the Discipline of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management, in Guwahati.
The competition was organised under the national IndiaSkills initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship for the 2025–26 cycle, with the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) as the sector skill partner. The Northeast Regional round was held from January 19 to 21, 2026.

The event focused on tourism and hospitality skills, including Cooking, Bakery, Patisserie and Confectionery, Hotel Reception, and Restaurant Service. Young participants from across the northeastern states competed in a series of rigorous practical and technical challenges designed to reflect real-world industry standards.

According to organisers, the competition featured immersive simulations such as hotel check-in and check-out procedures, table laying, napkin folding, salad and soup service, fruit and gâteau carving, flambé techniques, wine decanting and complete dinner service operations. Bakery and confectionery tasks tested precision, creativity and adherence to professional norms.

Participants demonstrated high levels of technical competence, creativity and professionalism throughout the competition. Officials said the exercises were designed to benchmark skills against national and international standards and to prepare candidates for progression to higher levels of the IndiaSkills competition framework.
The IndiaSkills initiative serves as a platform to identify, nurture and recognise skilled youth across sectors, while aligning vocational training with industry requirements. The Northeast regional competition provided participants from the region an opportunity to compete at a national-level platform closer to home.
University officials said hosting the event reflects Assam down town University’s continued engagement with skill development and its emphasis on producing industry-ready professionals capable of meeting the evolving demands of the global hospitality sector.
