Assam: Deckiajuli Tea Estate Achieves Record ₹800/kg Price at Guwahati Auction
A premium lot of CTC tea from Deckiajuli Tea Estate fetched a record ₹800 per kg at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre, reflecting rising global demand for high-quality Assam tea.

GUWAHATI- In a significant milestone for Assam’s tea industry, a premium lot of CTC tea from Deckiajuli Tea Estate has achieved a record auction price of ₹800 per kilogram at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC).
The development marks one of the highest prices recorded for Assam CTC tea in recent years and highlights the growing demand for premium-quality teas in domestic and international markets.
Located on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River in Sonitpur district, Deckiajuli Tea Estate is owned by Parry Agro Industries Ltd, a subsidiary of the Murugappa Group.

The estate is known for producing robust black CTC tea blends with distinct caramel notes and has long been regarded as one of Assam’s established tea-producing gardens.
The record-breaking tea lot was marketed and managed by J Thomas & Co Pvt Ltd and was eventually purchased by Jain Tea Company following competitive bidding during the auction.
Reacting to the development, Dinesh Bihani, Secretary of the Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association, stated that premium Assam teas continue to witness strong demand in both national and international markets.

He observed that the digital auction system at GTAC has contributed towards greater transparency, efficient price discovery, and fair trade practices within the tea industry.
Officials associated with Deckiajuli Tea Estate described the achievement as recognition of the estate’s manufacturing quality and plucking standards, while brokers noted that the ₹800 per kilogram benchmark could influence market expectations during the current harvesting season.
Representatives of J Thomas & Co further stated that premium secondary flush teas exhibiting bright amber liquors and clean hard cuts are currently attracting strong interest from exporters and leading tea packeteers.

The development also drew attention from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who praised the achievement through a social media post.
The Chief Minister stated that the record reflected the increasing global demand and premium value associated with Assam tea and reiterated the State Government’s commitment towards strengthening Assam’s tea industry through policy support and focused initiatives.

Market observers believe the record-breaking sale could encourage tea gardens across the region to prioritise quality enhancement and premium production standards in order to secure higher auction valuations in future sales.
